PRAYING FOR
OUR COUNTRY

October:

The Situation We Find Ourselves In

For the month of October, Irving Church will be in prayer for our nation. The United States of America has long been a world leader in many areas and arenas. As citizens,we are proud and thankful for our liberties, opportunities, protection, and judicial system.

This country, however, continues to change in many ways, and finds itself in a political,
ethical, moral, and financial mess.  This month precipitates an important election upcoming the first week in November.  Both Christians and non-Christians alike often hold differing views from one another about what is best for our country and who should lead her. These matters are hotly debated as our nation is as divided as it has ever been in modern times. Many are very passionate and patriotic about the well-being of our nation, while others are practically apolitical. Many are well educated as to the important issues of our day, yet others seem to have little concern about those things.

What Does the Christian Do?

What is the Christian to do in these volatile times? Pray!

In 2 Chronicles 7:14-16, God said, “Then if my people who are called by my name
will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked
ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”

1 Timothy 2:1–3 "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are
in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified
in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior…”

And remember, Daniel 2:21 says, “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets
up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have
understanding;”

Romans 13:1 –"Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For
there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted
by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has
appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment…"
